Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have stressed the need for early materialisation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to boost trade, investment and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Acting Foreign Minister Humaiun Kobir met UAE State Minister for International Cooperation Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy on November 2 on the sidelines of the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in St John's, Antigua and Barbuda.

They discussed a wide range of bilateral and multilateral issues to advance relations between Bangladesh and the UAE.

In particular, the two sides discussed facilitating the employment of skilled and semi-skilled Bangladeshi workers in the UAE labour market, safeguarding the interests of Bangladeshi expatriates living in the UAE, UAE investment in port facilities in Bangladesh and reciprocal support at multilateral forums, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.

The UAE side also expressed particular interest in supporting Bangladesh in addressing the Rohingya crisis, including tackling its root causes.
