Stock markets remained resilient in spite of facing currency headwinds during February.

US Stock Market:

February was one of Wall Street's wildest months since 2008. The

market insanity was even more startling because it followed a

period of extreme calm; and it arrived during a roaring economy.

U.S. stocks closed sharply at the end of the month, regaining more

than half of their correction-level losses amid a stabilization in

interest rates. Higher rates made bonds look a bit more attractive

and raised the cost of borrowing on mortgages and other loans.

Rates have been on the rise because of the strengthening economy

and a spending splurge by the federal government, forcing it

to borrow more money. A calmer debt market seemed to have

stabilized equities during the month. The Dow Jones industrial

average closed up at a higher rate due to industrial giants 3M

and Boeing. S&P and NASDAQ also managed to climb higher

because of the increased number of rally in Apple shares and

higher rate of gain in Intel.

European Stock Market:

U.K. stocks ended with losses in a downbeat, as attention turned

to U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell and what he

The punishing global stocks rout pushed key indexes in Germany, Spain and Sweden into correction

territory. Britain's biggest supplier of building materials dashed hopes for an increase in profit,

forecasting a flat performance, and mentioned it would slow investment in non-priority areas.

was signaling about U.S. interest rates in fresh testimony to

Congress. Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell's comments on

strengthening the U.S. economy and inflation, also shortened

the odds on hiking interest rates four times in February. The

punishing global stocks rout pushed key indexes in Germany,

Spain and Sweden into correction territory. Britain's biggest

supplier of building materials dashed hopes for an increase in

profit, forecasting a flat performance, and mentioned it would

slow investment in non-priority areas. On the other hand, Europe,

which has suffered years of anemic growth caused by a series of

debt crises, turned in its best economic performance during the

month.

Asian Stock Market:

Overall, Asian markets were mixed, after a lower finish in U.S.

stocks followed by the release of the latest Federal Reserve

minutes. Stock investors in Asia who were seeking a safe

haven from the volatility that rocked markets around the world

in February, may have found it in an unexpected place. The

Southeast Asian indexes ended February in the black, a contrast
