BB for keeping 1% provision for unclassified 
housing loans

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has asked the chief executives of all 
scheduled banks to maintain 1% general provision against all 
unclassified housing finance loans under consumer financing. 
The central bank issued a circular to this end, reports BSS.


BSEC yet to find any market maker

No one has so far showed interest in becoming market maker 
at the country’s capital market because of tough regulatory 
framework and less opportunity to maximize profit. The 
Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission has been 
trying to introduce market makers to mitigate liquidity crisis 
at the market when needed, but has failed so far to have any, 
officials of the BSEC and stock exchanges said.


Set Tk 16,000 as minimum wage

Workers and union leaders on Saturday demanded trebling 
of minimum wage to Tk 16,000 for the country's 3.6 million 
apparel workers given the abnormal spiral in the costs of basic 
commodities, accommodation and healthcare. At present, the 
minimum wage for garment workers is Tk 5,300.


Summit Group plans Singapore listing for 

power unit by April

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Electricity producer Summit Power 
International plans to list on the Singapore Exchange Ltd (SGX) by 
April, which is likely the first company from Bangladesh to offer 
shares in the city-state, as it seeks to raise funds to invest in assets 
across Asia. Bangladesh’s economic growth soared by 7.28% in the 
financial year that ended in June 2017 and its population is expected 
to climb to over 185 million people by 2030.
