Bankers seek exemption from labor act 

A proposal put forward for exempting banking companies from 
the purview of the labor act aiming to help protect the sector 
from possible challenges is now under scrutiny, sources said. 
After receiving the proposal, made recently by the Association 
of Bankers, Bangladesh (ABB), the finance ministry has referred 
the matter both to the labor and law ministries for taking next 
course of action.


NBR, BB sign MoU to prevent exodus of 

money from the country

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is set to share 
information and extent international cooperation with a unit of 
the central bank to check money laundering from the country. 
To this end, NBR and Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit of 
Bangladesh Bank (BB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding 
(MoU) on Sunday at NBR office. According to the agreement, 
there will be a number of focal points and primary contact 
persons to exchange information.


Paramount to build 200MW plant

Paramount BTrac Energy Consortium is going to set up a 
200-megawatt power plant in Sirajganj. The cabinet committee 
on purchase approved the associated Power Division proposal 
yesterday. The proposal says the government would purchase 
electricity at BDT 19.96 per kW/h from the diesel based power 
plant. The tenure of the plant will be five years. The sponsor 
company will purchase the land and construct the transmission 
line and sub-station at its own cost.


BB forecasts continuity of upward trend in 


The central bank predicts that the recent increasing trend of 
remittance is likely to continue in the ensuing months. The 
remittance inflow increased by 15.83% in the first seven months 
of the current fiscal compared to that of the corresponding 
period of the previous year. BB says Bangladesh received USD 
8,312.15 million as remittance compared to USD 7,176.32 
million in the same period of the previous fiscal.


ADP witnesses 33.35% rise in FY18

The implementation rate of the Annual Development 
Programme (ADP) in first seven months of the current 
fiscal witnessed a 33.35% rise. As per latest Implementation 
Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED) statistics, the 
ADP’s expenditure also jumped to BDT 547.18 billion. The 
ADP implementation rate during the July-January period of 
FY17 was 32.41%.


India, China in race for stake in DSE

Two economic giants -- India and China -- are in a race to buy 
25% stake in the Dhaka Stock Exchange. A consortium of the 
Shanghai Stock Exchange and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange 
has proposed to purchase 45 crore shares of the DSE for BDT 
22 each. It said it will also provide the stock exchange with a 
technical support involving USD 37 million (about BDT 300 


EBL to get USD 20m loan from ADB

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Monday signed an 
agreement with Eastern Bank Ltd (EBL) for a USD 20 million 
loan to help improve the standards and quality in Bangladesh's 
textile and garment sector and help fill the equity gap in the local 
financial market.


GP, Robi, Banglalink start 4G service

Grameenphone, Robi, and Banglalink have started 4G service 
in selected areas immediately after receiving the license for the 
fourth-generation mobile internet yesterday evening. State-
run carrier Teletalk will take some time before it offers its 
4G service to customers. The top three carriers yesterday said 
they went live with 4G service with about 400 base transceiver 
stations (BTS) in major cities of the country.
