Rick Hoyt was diagnosed with cerebral palsy which results with his brain being unable to send the correct messages to his muscles and was considered by Doctors to be bedridden for the rest of his life. However, Rick's parents did not give up the battle against fate. He was taught the alphabet at home and with the help of a computer he completed college and also graduated from the University of Boston. He later becomes inspired with racing and after his first race with his father Rick says "Dad, when I'm running, it feels like I'm not handicapped", which is all his father wanted to hear. Since then Rick and Dick have participated in over 1000 events, which gives the world a powerful message, 'There's nothing you cannot do if you make up your mind to do it'! This father's undying love for his child is unprecedented!
